Revised January 2024
In the interests of the safety of students and staff at Windaroo, Admin have devised the following processes that will be followed in the event of a severe storm on close-of-day (2:45 - 3:15pm or nearby).
1. If it is deemed by Administration to be unsafe for students to leave the buildings/school grounds due to severe weather (lightening, high winds, rising water, etc), students that walk, ride bikes or are collected by carers will be kept in classrooms when the 3:00pm bell sounds.
2. Students who travel on buses will be sent to the school Lone Pine Hall area (enter from A Block side of the building – front door), where they will be divided into bus groupings, and they will be escorted by staff to the bus gate in time to board their buses. Where possible buses will be informed of the change, so that students are not left behind.
3. The crossing supervisors will not go to the crossing until severe conditions have abated. This will be parents’ signal that students are being retained in classes, i.e. If there are no crossing supervisors at the crossing, parents will know that only bus children are being allowed to leave as per pt 2.
4. Parents who have arrived at school should go to classes and collect their children. They will be asked to sign out their children at the classroom if they are collecting children before 3:00pm.
5. When conditions are deemed safe enough for students to leave classes to walk or ride bikes, students will be dismissed. Parents and guardians, we encourage you to discuss your own emergency plans with your children in the event of a severe storm. For example, your child might normally ride their bike to school and you may discuss that in the event of a severe storm, you will collect them instead.
At any time, if you are concerned about approaching weather, you may ring the school on 3382 4333 to let us know specific details and instructions regarding your child. School administrators check the Bureau of Meteorology web site every 15 minutes when we are aware of an approaching storm. It is often difficult to gauge the severity of a storm before it is upon us, but please know that the safety of your children is paramount to us and we will continue to keep you informed through the newsletter if the arrangements listed here change in any way.
